12 Books That Make Amazing Father’s Day Gifts

on May 7, 2026

Looking for a Father’s Day Gift for the dad who has everything? Consider a book!

Yes, I have some self-interest here. My book, “Call Your Father,” makes a touching Father’s Day gift, especially for new dads and grandpas. But there are so many other excellent books to choose from. (All links here are affiliate links.)

Of course, you can pick out a book that meets a dad or grandpa’s specific reading interests. However, if you do that, they might already have it! I do like to visit my local indies and see if there are signed copies of a book the dads in my life will like, though. Even if they’ve already read it, a signed copy is special.

This list is focused on books that are more beautiful and heartfelt (or funny!) physical objects that can be gifted to dads. I’m going for a smile and a hug, not hours of reading. Think give a book, not a card, but for Father’s Day (or dad’s birthday, or whenever!).

Heartfelt Books for Kids that Make Great Gifts for Dads, Too

“Call Your Father”

"Call Your Father" cover

Ah, the reason for this piece! “Call Your Father” follows a baby as he grows up, calling his dad each step of the way. The part that might just make dad cry is when the now grown-up kid becomes a dad himself and still calls Dad for help. This book has a “dedicated to” page with a line for you to write your father’s name and thank him for always answering the call. This book is especially touching for a dad who’s just become a grandpa, or for a dad who’s about to become an empty nester because kids are going off to college.

There’s also “Call Your Mother” for Mother’s Day!

“Why, Daddy, Why?”

This is the best gift for the dads who are constantly answering “Why” from their littlest kids. Show Dad that you appreciate his willingness to answer all those questions with patience and love!

“Fly Fishing with Papa”

This is a beautiful book for dads who love to fly fish, particularly! Giving a book like this is a wonderful tribute to a shared hobby.

“Made for Me”

I specifically recommend this one for dads who are big guys, though don’t all adults feel like giants when holding a tiny newborn? I’ve heard feedback from real life big dads that the art in this book reflects how they feel, physically.

“I Love You Like No Otter”

I mean, what dad doesn’t love a pun? This sweet book is a celebration of love. The Punderland series has a book for any punny situation!

“Dad and Me Setting Farts Free”

Look, I’ve had a lot of sweet, heartfelt manuscripts get rejected by publishers. But this one is a bestseller? I mean, dads love farts. Go figure!

Books for Divorced Dads on Father’s Day

Not all families look the same. Recently, two friends of mine have published books that would be perfect for dads who are divorced to share with their kids. If you’re buying a Father’s Day gift for your family member or friend who is divorced, these two are like warm, comforting hugs.

“Papa and Pearl”

This book features a girl as the main character and is soaked in imaginative play. When all doesn’t go well at Dad’s house, improvisation and imagination save the day!

“First Night at Dad’s”

This book features a boy as the main character and is more based in the real-world (though there’s imagination, too!). When everything feels different at dad’s house, the most important thing remains the same: how much both of his parents love him.

Adult Books Focused on Fatherhood

Dad Jokes for New Dads

If you are brave enough to encourage dad to make more jokes, here you go. This book has all of the baby-related dad jokes you could ever wish for (or not wish for).

“Exceptionally Bad Dad Jokes”

All I’m going to say about this one is groan.

“There Are Dads Way Worse Than You”

Pay Dad back for his bad jokes with this funny gift. See also: “There Are Moms Way Worse Than You.”

New Dad Baby Hacks

Great for dads who are expecting! What is it about a dad that makes them love a “hack”? Good advice presented in an engaging way.

That’s it! Do you have your own favs? Leave them in the comments!
